Step-by-step setup
1
Create your account
Go to betterumami.com/register. Enter your name, email address, and a password, then click Create account. You can also sign up instantly using Sign in with Google.
By creating an account you agree to the Betterumami Terms and Privacy Policy.
2
Verify your email address
After signing up, Betterumami sends a 6-digit verification code to the email address you registered with. Enter that code when prompted to activate your account. Check your spam folder if the email doesn’t arrive within a couple of minutes.
3
Add your website
Once you are logged in, click Websites in the left sidebar, then click the Add website button in the top-right corner. Fill in the Name and Domain fields and click Save.
- Name — A human-readable label for the site (e.g.
My Blog). This is only used inside the dashboard. - Domain — The actual domain of your website (e.g.
example.com). This is used to filter your own domain out of referrer reports.
4
Copy the tracking script
After saving your website, click the Edit button next to it. Scroll down to the Tracking code section and copy the script tag that appears there. It looks like this:The
data-website-id attribute contains the unique ID that links collected events to your specific website in the dashboard.5
Install the script on your website
Paste the copied script tag into the
<head> section of every page you want to track. For most sites and frameworks, this means adding it to a shared layout or template file so it is included automatically on every page.6
Verify data is appearing
Visit your website in a browser. Then return to your Betterumami dashboard — you should see a pageview appear in real time. If you are running a single-page application (SPA), Betterumami automatically detects client-side navigation, so no extra configuration is needed.
Troubleshooting
If data is not showing up after you install the script, check the following:Data not appearing in the dashboard
Data not appearing in the dashboard
Open your browser developer tools (press
F12) and go to the Network tab. Reload the page and look for a request to cloud.umami.is. If no request appears, the script tag may not have been placed correctly, or the file containing the <head> section may not have been saved and redeployed.Script blocked by an ad blocker
Script blocked by an ad blocker
Some ad blockers block analytics scripts, including privacy-respecting ones like Betterumami. This means traffic from visitors using ad blockers will not be recorded. To reduce data loss, you can proxy the script through your own domain. See Install Tracking Script for guidance on the ad blockers workaround.

Confirm that the
data-website-id attribute in your script tag matches the website ID shown in the Betterumami dashboard under Edit for that website. A mismatched or missing ID is the most common cause of the script loading but sending no data.
